Once upon a time, there was an old donkey.
— I am a donkey! An old donkey!
— I live on a farm!
The donkey was tired of the unkindness of his master and decided to run away.
He received a letter telling that Bremen was looking for singers with the town band.
— I am a good singer! I’ll go to Bremen!
On the way along the road, the donkey met a dog.
— Hello! — said the donkey.
— Hi! I am a dog! A poor dog! I don’t have a place to go.
— Look at this letter! This will change your life forever! — said the donkey.
— Wow! — said the dog. — Can I go to Bremen with you?
— Of course! — said the donkey. — Let’s go!
On the way along the road, the donkey and the dog met a cat.
— Hello! — said the donkey.
— Hi! I am a cat! A sad cat! I don’t have a place to go.
— Look at this letter! This will change your life forever! — said the donkey.
— Wow! — said the cat. — Can I go to Bremen with you?
— Of course! — said the donkey. — Let’s go!
On the way along the road, the donkey, the dog, and the cat met a rooster.
— Hello! — said the donkey.
— Hi! I am a rooster! A tired rooster! I don’t have a place to go.
— Look at this letter! This will change your life forever! — said the donkey.
— Wow! — said the rooster. — Can I go to Bremen with you?
— Of course! —said the donkey. — Let’s go!
On the way to Bremen, night fell, and the four creatures found themselves in a thick forest.
In the distance they saw a light coming from a little cottage.
— Let’s go there! — said the dog.
They crept up to the window. The donkey placed his front hoofs on the window ledge. The dog jumped on the donkey’s back. The cat climbed onto the dog and the rooster flew on top of the cat.
— I want to see! —said the rooster.
Inside the cottage there were two thieves celebrating their latest robbery.
— We have a lot of food here! — said one of the thieves.
— Let’s celebrate! — said the other.
The four creatures outside were really hungry. The dog started barking, the cat started snarling and the rooster screeched along with the others!
— What’s that outside? — said one of the thieves.
— It’s a monster! Run as fast as you can! — said the other.
So, the donkey, the dog, the cat and the rooster took over the house. They had a great dinner that night and slept very well.
The next day, they arrived in Bremen for a great concert.
— I am a donkey! I sing and I play the guitar!
— I am a dog! I have a beautiful voice and I play drums!
— I am a cat! My voice is magical and I play the violin!
— I am a rooster! My voice is amazing: cok-a-doodle!
Everybody in Bremen got really happy with that band! And the four creatures lived happily after ever!
